Off to Denver

My whole family is going to Denver with me to celebrate my book—MRS. ROWE'S LITTLE BOOK OF SOUTHERN PIES. I'll be signing books at Wen Chocolates on Saturday from 1 to 3. It's not usual for an author to go across country to sign books—publishers don't pay you to do that and that don't even help you with your costs. But this event is special.

Kate Antea lives in Denver. She is the the woman who tested the recipes for the book and she did an incredible job. She works at WEN with the chef and chocolatier William Poole, who wanted to have this book signing.

But Kate is more than a colleague. I've known her almost as long as I've known my husband—18 years. Very few people come into my life and stay that long. We've been through several moves, careers, and life changes. Now, I am a mother and so many of my "friends" have lost interest because I am no longer available all the time. Now, she is a pastry chef, after years of trying on new careers. 

Sometimes, it was months of not hearing from her. But we really do have the kind of friendship in which it doesn't matter. We so easily pick up where we left off. I am so grateful to have her in my life.

Another friend is also in Denver—Bella Stander, book lady extraordinaire. Another lady with a big heart who I am grateful to have in my life. She came in to my life during a time I really thought I was losing my mind and set me straight.

So Denver is not just about the Rockies and the chocolate—it really is about spreading a little more of that pie love.
