1. Tess is back to her old self. At the bus stop, she told me that she
can "smell" a magazine a mile away. She loves the smell of them and the
feel of them. Did my heart good.
2. That reminded me of when I was a kid. My grandfather was a a lay out
artist at the Beaver County Times. Sometimes he'd bring me blank
newsprint. I'd spread it out over the floor, lay on my stomach, and draw
boxes on it, then fill in the boxes with hand-printed stories. If I
think about it, I can almost feel that newsprint on my elbows. I
remember the complete and utter satisfaction of those filled in boxes.
The process. I still love it.
3. When I was in my 20s, I ran into my third grade teacher. I was a
newsletter writer and producer and the time. She laughed when I told her
that. "I still have newsletters that you wrote in the third grade."
4. So, this writing thing I do is not something I just stepped into over
night. It's a part of who I am. I keep coming back to that.
5. I think about my grandfather a lot. He died when I was 7. But, just
the short time I knew him influenced my life in so many ways.
Grandparents rock.
