i mollie, i run · May 25, 2010

Five things I thought about during my morning run:

1. Is it going to rain, or what?
2. Look at that mockingbird chase that crow. LOL.
3. I have no idea if my HVAC guy is coming today. He left yesterday and
didn't say. the last I heard he is waiting on my unit. All the duct work
is finished.
4. Nice guy. But I don't miss him hanging around.
5. It's so hard to admit to mistakes–you know, the big ones. Not the
little ones. I'm thinking that's why a lot of people hang on to REALLY
bad relationships. They are afraid of admitting to another "failure."
It's only a failure if you keep living that way. Eh well, my life's not
perfect–but I can honestly say I've gotten to a point where if I feel
like I'm being mistreated, I will cut you off in New York minute. Maybe
it's the wisdom of age. But there's always MORE or ANOTHER WAY. Ya
don't need to put up with mistreatment.

I don’t think it’s fear of failure that makes us not admit to a relationship mistake. I think it’s hope. Hope that people will change for us. Hope that they love us enough to change for us. Hope that we are actually right about what we should expect in a relationship.
You are correct about age tho–as you age your ability to extend that hope (patience?) gets less, perhaps it’s mortality knowledge. Perhaps it’s just being fed up. Interesting subject. I might actaully ahve to write a piece about this.

You may be right, Sharon. That could be the reverse side of the same coin. Hope on one side, fear of failure on the other. Yes, the age thing, I guess I sort of feel like I don’t have the time to waste. But it’s so difficult to see my younger friends struggling, hanging on, being mistreated. I wish I had a magic wand.
