Book 2 in the Eliza Hamilton Mysteries

“Cox combines a remarkable talent for bringing the past to life with well-shaded characterizations. Historical mystery fans will be thrilled.”
—Publishers Weekly

“Cox offers a complex portrait of Eliza . . . Then gives her protagonist a mission worthy of her determination. A robust blend of history and mystery.”
—Kirkus Review

The widow of Alexander Hamilton faces another mystery in the second Eliza Hamilton mystery, perfect for fans of Deanna Raybourn.

It’s December 1805 and Eliza Hamilton is determined to seek justice. One young woman is dead, another has vanished—both residents of a house where Eliza’s friend, Alice, lives among other craftswomen struggling to survive in a city unforgiving toward widows and orphans.

With no help from the constabulary because the young woman’s body was found in a bad part of town–and was dressed as a man–Eliza vows to protect the women and uncover the truth. She suspects a connection between the death and the disappearance, especially given that the young lady who disappeared went missing while searching for the woman who was later found dead.

As Eliza traces their last known steps, she unearths a hidden world of dangerous secrets lurking beneath the city—secrets that could tear apart everything she holds dear.

This pulse-racing historical mystery will intrigue and delight anyone fascinated by the founding fathers and feminist history

A Beach Reads Mystery Book 3
(writing as Maggie Blackburn)

When Beach Reads bookshop hosts a Valentine’s Day event, “Romance by the Sea,” bookseller Summer Merriweather has no idea that the guest author is under investigation for her own husband’s murder. When that same author is found dead at the local bed and breakfast, nobody assumes it’s natural causes–there were plenty of people who wanted her dead.

As Summer searches for the truth about the author’s stranger-than-fiction life, Summer finds suspicious indications of shady behavior in the author’s belongings. But the casual sleuthing is quickly derailed when Summer’s friend Glads gets hauled in for the murder, and they launch a full-blown investigation to clear her name.

As Summer and company pick through the scant clues to solve the case, they may find more treachery and heartbreak than they bargained for.

New York, 1804. America’s beloved Alexander Hamilton lies dead after a duel with Aaron Burr. Meanwhile, Eliza Hamilton’s eighteen-year-old son, Alexander Jr., was seen fighting with a man in a tavern the night before his father’s duel and quickly comes under suspicion for murder when the man turns up dead.

Eliza searches for ways to clear her son’s name, even as she is grieving, but as she combs through her late husband’s papers, she finds evidence of a plot to steal money from the government during his tenure as secretary of state. Hamilton was accused of stealing that money, and it was a scandal that almost broke the family—but is Eliza now holding proof of Alexander’s innocence?

Deep in debt and despair, with eight children to support, Eliza turns to selling her handmade lace—and is drawn into a mysterious network of widow lacemakers who are intimately connected to New York’s high-society families. They know their dead husbands’ secrets—and soon, Eliza begins to piece together the truth.

There’s a dark plot connected with the duel, as one by one, witnesses to the bout are being killed. Now, Eliza must not only clear her husband’s and son’s names but keep herself out of the killer’s sights.

Hello Mollie – I picked up The Lace Widow for my spouse to read. When she finished to book I asked her if she liked it and she said yes. I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised by the read. The novel was interesting, compelling and entertaining. It was the kind of book when you get started you don’t want to put it down! We both liked it very much. Keep up the great work. Sincerely, J&E

    Dear Ms. Cox:

I hope this message finds you well. It’s James Blakey; we met at an event for THE LACE WIDOW in Waynesboro back in December.

I think I mentioned that my debut novel SUPERSTITION, a paranormal thriller, will be published this fall by City Owl Press.

Here’s the pitch: A college newspaper reporter battles his skeptical editor and a hostile university administration when he links a series of campus deaths to broken superstitions.

I appreciate that’s not exactly your genre, and I’m certain you are very busy, but I wondered if you’d be interested in reading a digital ARC of SUPERSTITION — pdf or ePub — with the idea of providing a one or two sentence blurb for the back of the book/inside of the book. The novel is 88,000 words long, and I’d need a blurb by July 25th.

    Thanks for your time.

    James Blakey

I just finished Christmas Cow Bells and enjoyed it very much. I especially liked the cows. When I saw your book Goodnight Moo at Bouchercon, I got in line for a free copy, knowing it had to be good with cows on the over. I look forward to reading it soon. I like to read books in a series in the order written, so I enjoyed meeting Brynn and will enjoy learning more about her in the next book.

Hi. I have been enjoying the Beach Reads series! I really love the characters and hope there will be more!

I wanted to let you know that there seem to be some typos with Lana’s name in A Killer Romance. At times she is referred to as Lena. I am not sure if you were aware or not, but I wanted to let you know in case you don’t know so that you can correct it in all your future printings:). Thanks for all your writing!

I love it too! Thank you! The editor who purchased the books at the publisher is no longer there, so I have no idea if there will be more.
